Out and About: Discovering Flambo Island Cuisine on St. Armand Circle
28 November 2025
If you’re looking for a brand new and exciting dining experience on St. Armand Circle, look no further than Flambo Island Cuisine. This vibrant restaurant brings a unique blend of flavors inspired by the rich cultural heritage of Trinidad and Tobago, right here in the heart of Sarasota.
A Family Legacy and a Light to Guide You
The name Flambo has a special meaning and history. Kevin, the son and owner who warmly greets guests upon arrival, shares that “Flambo” was inspired by an old rum bottle with a t-shirt inside, used as a light source during power outages in Trinidad. It symbolizes family, tradition, and the light that brings loved ones together. This heartfelt story reflects the family-owned nature of the restaurant and its commitment to authentic, home-style cuisine.
From Philadelphia Roots to Sarasota’s St. Armand Circle
Flambo Island Cuisine originally started as a humble food cart at Temple University in Philadelphia. Over time, the family transformed an abandoned building into a beloved brick-and-mortar restaurant. Now, they bring their passion and flavors to Sarasota, offering a fresh new location with an inviting atmosphere and stunning interiors. Notably, the elegant chandeliers, salvaged from the Bird Key Yacht Club, add a touch of history and charm to the space.
A Fusion of Flavors from Trinidad and Tobago
What sets Flambo Island Cuisine apart is its diverse menu that beautifully fuses Indian, Creole, Spanish, and Chinese influences—reflecting the multicultural culinary landscape of Trinidad and Tobago. Guests can expect dishes that are flavorful, authentic, and made from scratch with fresh, natural ingredients.
